Skate Penn has been operating in State College, PA since October 2007. After Shop Co-Owner Christian Pfeifer relocated from Colorado and landed in State College, Pennsylvania, the options for purchasing skate gear were slim, and even the places that had it available had very little knowledge about skateboarding. Products were only available in stores that carried multiple types of products, therefore, there was no real "Skate Shop" for local riders to call home. With that in mind, Christian got on the phone to his brother "Shaggy" Pfeifer, who was living in St. Petersburg, Florida, and told him of the need for a Skate Shop in town. Shaggy decided he would come check out the scene and a few weeks later he visited State College, and after spending a weekend in town, and seeing the potential, he relocated and the concept of Skate Penn was born, and then in October of 2007, Skate Penn opened its doors in the original location in the Fraser St Alley. The original shop was more Skate Park then Skate Shop, but with limited room, and of course more ramps than product displays, Christian and Shaggy eventually decided that with all of the great street skating, Woodward Camp 30 minutes away, and a public skate park 5 minutes away, it was time to relocate to a more retail based location. So after 2 years in the old location, Skate Penn relocated to the current location at 218 E. Calder Way, in the heart of the downtown shopping traffic. The new shop has been a huge success! Also, Akuma, the shop mascot came along as well, and still waits for you as you walk in the door. Christian and Shaggy love Skateboarding and everything about it. They are in business to promote the sport, and accommodate the locals with anything from Clothing, to Headphones for your iPod, and of course, all things you need for your Skate or Snow Board. So stop in, check us out, and we will see you soon!
